A Statement on the Kamloops Residential School Discovery

June 2, 2021 | By The Next 30

The discovery of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School is tragic and devastating. Indigenous Peoples and communities across the land are hurting. As Next 30 focuses on possibilities for Alberta’s future, we also acknowledge the weight and wounds of the past and our responsibility to listen, to learn and to commit to action to walk a genuine path of both truth and reconciliation. The month of June is significant as National Indigenous History Month. Now more than ever it is a time for a national reckoning on what that means for our country, and our province.
